262 food points penalized for hygiene violations in Khanewal during September
MULTAN, Oct 05 (APP): The Punjab Food Authority (PFA), Khanewal, inspected 2,400 food points across the district during September as part of its ongoing drive to ensure food safety and protect public health.
According to the monthly performance report issued by the PFA, warning and corrective notices were served on 1,340 food business operators for violations of food safety and hygiene standards, while 262 food points were imposed heavy fines over various
violations.
The authority also suspended production at 10 food points until compliance with food safety regulations, while cases were registered against five people for serious violations of food laws.
During inspections, PFA teams discarded 8,200 kilograms of rotten fruit, 6,500kg of substandard mango pulp and 550kg of inferior-quality papad. They also destroyed 170kg of unsafe meat, 120kg of open spices and more than 100 dozen spoiled eggs.
As many as 63 food samples were collected during inspections and sent to laboratories for testing.
PFA Director General Raja Mansoor Ahmed said that all stages of the food supply chain, from preparation and processing to transportation, were being regularly monitored.
He said strict action would be taken against elements involved in adulteration, fraud and the sale or production of substandard food.
