PFA seizes 1,150kg substandard spices in Khanewal, shuts unit

262 food points penalized for hygiene violations in Khanewal during September
MULTAN, Oct 12 (APP):The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) seized 1,150 kilograms of substandard spices and suspended production at a spice manufacturing unit in the 126/15-L area of Khanewal till improvement.
The action was taken on the directions of PFA Director General Raja Mansoor Ahmed as part of an intensified crackdown on food adulteration and the sale of substandard food products.
According to a PFA spokesperson, samples of red chilli and turmeric powder collected from the unit failed to meet the prescribed quality standards. The substandard spices were reportedly intended for distribution to various locations.
The food safety team seized the entire stock of 1,150kg of spices and took the machinery into custody. Production at the unit was suspended till improvement.
PFA Director General Raja Mansoor Ahmed said the authority would not compromise on the provision of safe, quality and adulteration-free food to the public.
He added that indiscriminate action would continue against those involved in food adulteration and fraudulent practices, while strict legal measures would be ensured against elements endangering public health.
