World Arthritis Day observed across Pakistan
ISLAMABAD, Oct 12 (APP): World Arthritis Day was observed across Pakistan on Monday to raise public awareness about arthritis, its symptoms, prevention and treatment.
Various awareness activities were organized to educate people about the disease and the importance of timely medical care.
The day aimed to highlight the impact of arthritis on people’s mobility and quality of life, while encouraging individuals to seek early diagnosis and appropriate treatment to manage the condition effectively.
Health experts used the occasion to educate people about common symptoms, including joint pain, swelling, stiffness and restricted movement, stressing that timely consultation with qualified healthcare professionals could help manage the disease and improve patients’ quality of life.
Various activities, including awareness sessions, educational programmes and public outreach initiatives, were organized to promote understanding of arthritis among different segments of society.
Medical professionals emphasized the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, engaging in physical activity suited to individual health conditions and following medical advice to protect joint health.
They stressed the need for greater public awareness, early diagnosis, access to appropriate treatment and rehabilitation services to reduce disability and improve the quality of life of affected individuals.
Arthritis refers to a group of conditions that cause inflammation and problems in the joints. Common forms include osteoarthritis, which is associated with joint wear and damage, and rheumatoid arthritis, an autoimmune disease that can cause persistent inflammation and joint damage if left untreated.
In Pakistan, arthritis and other musculoskeletal conditions pose a significant public health challenge, particularly among older adults.
World Arthritis Day is observed annually on October 12 to raise awareness about rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases and highlight the challenges faced by people living with these conditions.
