Islamabad police register 89 cases against illegal shisha cafes, drug-related violations

IHC unhappy with excise office over delay in citizen’s car registration
ISLAMABAD, Oct 13 (APP): Inspector General of Islamabad Police has submitted a report to the Islamabad High Court (IHC), detailing action taken against shisha cafes and drug-related violations in the federal capital.
According to the report, 28 cases were registered at 10 police stations from January 1 to July 15, 2026, nominating 119 suspects in the first phase of action against shisha smoking and violations of relevant laws.
A further 61 cases were registered between July 16 and September 7, 2026. Following court orders, legal action was taken against 163 suspects within the jurisdictions of 13 police stations.
The IG maintained that allegations of inaction and negligence against Islamabad Police were baseless and contrary to the facts. He said the police were pursuing a zero-tolerance policy against shisha cafes and drugs in the capital.
The report stated that the police launched the anti-drug awareness campaign “Nasha Ab Nahin” on April 26, 2024.
Intelligence-based patrolling has been intensified around educational institutions, hostels, parks and bus terminals, while the Special Branch has been tasked with collecting data on both new and existing shisha cafes.
Special teams have also been established at police station and sub-divisional levels to monitor shisha cafes. CCTV cameras at commercial premises are being linked to the Safe City system, and decoy operations are being conducted to take action against illegal establishments.
The IG said citizens could report illegal shisha cafes through the Info One application and other channels. He added that action against such cafes was being monitored centrally.
The police chief requested the court to dispose of the petition, maintaining that the allegations of negligence against the police were inconsistent with the facts.
