Murree Traffic Police issue strict safety SOPs for school transport; ban overloading
MURREE, Oct 13 (APP): City Traffic Police Murree on Tuesday issued comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for school transport to regulate student safety, cap vehicle passenger capacities, and eliminate overloading and speeding.
The decisions were finalized during a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Murree Muneer Ahmed Hashmi, along with Assistant Commissioner Murree and DSP Headquarter Malik Azmat.
Under the newly instituted guidelines, student capacity per vehicle has been capped at 12 primary students, 10 middle school students and eight high school students per transport unit.
The traffic authority declared a zero-tolerance policy against overloading, overcharging, open fuel storage, and smoking inside school vehicles, making the installation of functional fire extinguishers mandatory in all student transport vehicles.
CTO Munir Hashmi announced that joint enforcement teams from Murree and Kotli Sattian traffic police will inspect vehicle fitness, route permits, and compliance records two to three days a week across 40 registered school vehicles, with strict legal action warned against violators. The session was also attended by school teachers, commercial vehicle operators and trade representatives.
