Sports promotion imperative for public health: VC Zulfiqar
FAISALABAD, Oct 13 (APP): University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zulfiqar Ali said that the promotion of sports among young people was imperative for public health as increasing screen time and sedentary lifestyles were reducing opportunities for physical activity and deteriorating human health.
He was inaugurating the university’s sports gala arranged by Agrarian Society along with Dean of Agriculture Prof Dr Ghulam Murtaza and Director of Students Affairs Prof Dr Waseem Akram.
The gala featured competitions in cricket, football, handball, and other games, providing students with opportunities to demonstrate their sporting abilities and engage in healthy competition.
Prof Dr Zulfiqar Ali said that participation in games helped instill discipline, teamwork, leadership and respect for others, while promoting a healthier lifestyle.
He said that the university was taking all possible steps to promote sporting activities among young people by providing suitable facilities and encouraging wider student participation.
A strong sporting culture could help students to develop confidence, resilience and a sense of collective responsibility, he added.
He encouraged students to take an active part in sporting events and make physical fitness an essential part of their daily routines.
Prof Dr Ghulam Murtaza said that sports helped students to develop a balanced personality, improve their ability to work in teams and learn to face challenges with determination and lead a healthy life.
Prof Dr Waseem Akram said that sports gala provided a platform for students to display their talent, promote friendship and strengthen unity. He also called for encouraging participation in different games.
