LHC dismisses contempt plea against Punjab chief secretary
LAHORE, Oct 14 (APP):The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday dismissed a contempt of court petition against Punjab Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman over the failure to appoint a chairperson of the Punjab Commission on the Status of Women.
Chief Justice Aalia Neelum passed the order while hearing a petition filed by Amna Malik, who had sought contempt proceedings against the chief secretary over the delay in appointing the commission’s chairperson.
During the hearing, the chief justice observed that a prescribed procedure existed for the appointment of the chairperson and members of the commission and directed that the appointment process be allowed to proceed.
The court observed that, prima facie, no case for contempt of court was made out against the Punjab chief secretary. Consequently, the court dismissed the petition.
