CTP probationers from Sindh visit SMEDA
LAHORE, Oct 15 (APP): A delegation of first Common Training Programme (CTP) probationary officers from Sindh here Thursday visited the Lahore office of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) as part of their study tour to gain practical insights into the functioning, institutional framework, and service delivery mechanisms of public-sector organizations.
During the visit, SMEDA General Manager (Corporate Affairs) Saleha Saeed briefed the visiting officers on the Authority’s mandate, strategic priorities, and key initiatives under its three-year Business Plan, highlighting SMEDA’s role in promoting the growth, competitiveness, and sustainability of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) across Pakistan.
The briefing covered a range of priority areas, including the formalization of small businesses, improved access to finance, export readiness, women’s entrepreneurship, micro-enterprise development, and climate-related initiatives. The officers were also apprised of SMEDA’s efforts to facilitate entrepreneurs, strengthen the SME ecosystem, and promote a more enabling environment for business development and economic growth.
The session provided the probationary officers with an opportunity to understand how a specialized public-sector institution translates its policy objectives into practical support services for businesses and entrepreneurs. The discussion also highlighted the importance of institutional coordination, effective service delivery, and targeted development interventions in addressing the challenges faced by small businesses.
The visiting officers appreciated SMEDA’s contributions to the development of Pakistan’s MSME ecosystem and acknowledged the significance of its initiatives in supporting entrepreneurship, expanding business opportunities, and strengthening the country’s economic base.
The visit formed part of the officers’ broader learning experience aimed at enhancing their understanding of the operational roles, responsibilities, and development-oriented functions of public-sector institutions.
