MULTAN, Oct 19 (APP):The Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) UFG Control Task Force intensified its crackdown on gas theft, illegal consumption, and technical violations, disconnecting 129 gas meters after inspecting 2,140 locations across the district.
According to a spokesperson on Monday, a major portion of the disconnections involved the illegal use of gas compressors, accounting for 86 cases. In addition, the task force removed illegal extensions at nine locations, disconnected 18 meters installed in reverse, nine meters utilized for commercial purposes, six cases of illegal shifting, and eight meters upon consumers’ own requests. One meter was removed for being located away from the service area, while one direct gas theft connection was also detected and dismantled.
SNGPL officials stated that the ongoing drive aimed to curb gas theft, restore system line pressure, address consumer complaints promptly, and guarantee uninterrupted, safe gas supply to regular bill-paying consumers.
The General Manager SNGPL Multan reiterated that safety remains the company’s highest priority. He urged consumers to exercise extreme caution while using gas appliances, advise checking for odor before ignition, and avoid operating electrical switches in case of suspected leaks. He warned that strict legal action against gas theft and unauthorized practices will continue without discrimination
