ISLAMABAD, Oct 24 (APP):Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Muhammad Sohail Chaudhry has introduced a new Leave Policy 2026 for Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police, making one weekly rest day mandatory for all officers and personnel and revising leave rules to improve the welfare of the force.
An ICT Police spokesperson told APP on Saturday that the new policy had been issued on the special directions of the IGP and would be implemented immediately across all branches of Islamabad Police.
He said the policy clearly defined the powers of senior officers to approve casual, earned, medical and other types of leave, making the process easier for police personnel.
Under the revised policy, Station House Officers (SHOs) can approve up to three days of casual leave for constables and head constables, while Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) can approve up to five days.
Similarly, Superintendents of Police (SPs) can approve up to three days of casual leave for personnel from constable to inspector rank, while Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) have the authority to approve three days of casual leave for SPs and SHOs.
The spokesperson said Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs) have been authorised to approve all types of leave for personnel from constable to inspector rank, while leave applications of DIGs and SSPs would require approval from the IGP Islamabad.
He said the new policy also allowed 45 days of leave for Hajj and 21 days for Umrah and other religious pilgrimages.
Male police personnel would be entitled to 10 days of marriage leave, while female officers and personnel would be allowed one month’s leave on marriage.
Under the policy, officers appearing in Central Superior Services (CSS) and Provincial Civil Services (PCS) examinations can avail up to 20 days of leave, while up to 15 days would be allowed for interviews.
The spokesperson said police personnel serving away from their home districts would be entitled to seven days of leave after 45 days of duty and 14 days after 90 days, under the revised policy.
He said one weekly rest day had been made mandatory for all police officers and personnel and would be treated separately from other types of leave.
The policy also provides for medical leave according to the health needs of police personnel.
In addition, the revised rules allow more than 10 percent of the strength of a unit or division to proceed on casual leave at a time.
The spokesperson said the new policy had been prepared keeping in view the welfare and professional needs of police personnel while maintaining departmental discipline.
