Tarar reaffirms Pakistan’s support for Kashmiris’ right to self-determination

Azam Tarar pays tribute to Justice (retd) Khalil-ur-Rehman Ramday’s services
ISLAMABAD, Oct 26 (APP):Federal Minister for Law and Justice Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar on Monday reaffirmed Pakistan’s continued moral, political and diplomatic support for the Kashmiri people and their right to self-determination.
In his message on Kashmir Black Day, the minister said the Jammu and Kashmir dispute was internationally recognised and its final settlement must be in accordance with relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and the free will of the Kashmiri people.
He said denial of the right to self-determination remained a major obstacle to lasting peace and stability in the region.
Expressing concern over the human rights situation in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Tarar cited reports of arbitrary arrests, illegal detention, restrictions on freedom of expression and peaceful assembly, demolition of homes and collective punishment of civilians.
He also voiced concern over India’s unilateral actions of August 5, 2019, and attempts to alter the demographic composition of the occupied territory.
The minister stressed the need for transparent investigations into human rights violations, accountability for those responsible and access to justice for victims.
He urged the international community and the United Nations to play an effective role in protecting human rights in the territory and ensuring that Kashmiris could exercise their fundamental rights.
Tarar said lasting peace and stability in South Asia were intrinsically linked to a just and peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
