AI can’t replace human intelligence: PU VC

Human-Centered AI Laboratory to be inaugurated at Punjab University
LAHORE, Oct 28 (APP):Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali on Wednesday said that artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming every sphere of life, making the role of universities increasingly important in preparing students for emerging challenges.
Addressing a graduation ceremony at Punjab University’s Hailey College of Commerce (HCC), he said the use of AI is rapidly expanding in science, commerce, healthcare and other sectors. He stressed the need to understand and adopt modern technology, saying artificial intelligence can never replace natural human intelligence.
The vice chancellor also urged students to use digital media responsibly and verify information before sharing it. Congratulating the graduates, their parents and teachers, he said true success comes through knowledge and piety rather than wealth or power. He advised students to uphold human values and care for others in their professional lives.
Dean Faculty of Commerce Prof Dr Hafiz Zafar Ahmed said obtaining a degree marks the beginning of professional life rather than the end of an academic journey. He urged graduates to face future challenges with dedication, hard work and perseverance while remembering their parents’ sacrifices.
HCC Principal Prof Dr Ashfaq Ahmed said more than 13,000 candidates applied for admission to various programmes at the college this year, setting a new record. He congratulated the graduates and medal winners on their academic achievements.
During the ceremony, degrees were awarded to more than 800 students of BS programmes in Commerce, E-Commerce, Accounting and Finance, and Accounting and Taxation, besides M.Com, M.Phil and PhD programmes. A total of 10 gold, 10 silver and 10 bronze medals were also awarded to outstanding students.
Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mahmood Saleem, Registrar Dr Ahmed Islam, faculty members, students and their parents attended the ceremony.
