LAHORE, Oct 28 (APP): An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Wednesday extended the physical remand of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shabbir Gujjar by six days in the May 9 Jinnah House attack case.
ATC Judge Sardar Muhammad Akram Khan passed the order after the accused was produced before the court upon completion of his previous physical remand.
The investigating officer sought a further 30-day physical remand, stating that the police needed to recover the accused’s mobile phone and vehicle. He alleged that the vehicle had been used during the May 9 incidents and was required as case property.
Opposing the request, defence counsel Yousaf Wain argued that Shabbir Gujjar had already undergone 30 days of physical remand, including an initial 21-day remand followed by a further nine days. He contended that the accused had been arrested after three years and maintained that the vehicle was not case property in the present matter.
The prosecutor, however, maintained that Gujjar was involved in the Jinnah House attack case and that further custody was necessary to complete the investigation.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the court granted a further six-day physical remand.
The case, FIR No. 96/23, was registered at Sarwar Road police station in connection with the attack on Jinnah House on May 9, 2023. PTI leaders have been accused in the case of sedition and inciting party workers to engage in arson and vandalism.
