DPM Dar for effective use of AI, digital techs to shift focus from reactive response to preemptive preparedness
ISLAMABAD, Oct 1 (APP): Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister (DPM/FM), Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Thursday called for the effective use of artificial intelligence and digital technologies to shift the focus from reactive response to early warning and preparedness.
The deputy prime minister issued these directions amid chairing a high-level meeting on the Establishment of the Joint Pak Global Tech Facility at the National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC), National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), a DPM’s Office news release said.
The Chairman NDMA briefed the meeting on NEOC’s role in disaster monitoring, early warning, preparedness and coordinated response. He also outlined NDMA’s Next Generation Technology project and plans to establish the Global Resilience Hub for international cooperation in proactive disaster management.
The DPM/FM underscored the need to strengthen Pakistan’s resilience against recurring natural disasters, given the country’s vulnerability to climate change. He also stressed efficient and coordinated implementation of agreed plans.
The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Dr Musadik Malik; Chairman NDMA, Lt General Inam Haider Malik; Special Assistant to Prime Minister Tariq Bajwa; Secretary, Economic Affairs Division; and senior officials from the Ministries of Planning and Development, Finance and Foreign Affairs, as well as NDMA.
