GB finance minister, FGP discuss collaboration on economic empowerment, climate resilience
ISLAMABAD, Oct 23 (APP):Gilgit-Baltistan Finance Minister Muhammad Ali Akhtar on Friday visited Freedom Gate Prosperity (FGP) head office to explore avenues of collaboration on economic empowerment, sustainable livelihoods and climate resilience.
He was accompanied by Ali Akbar Baig, a prominent social and political figure from Gilgit-Baltistan.
FGP Chief Executive Officer Muhammad Anwar welcomed the minister, while Shafqat Aziz, Senior Policy Advisor at FGP, was also present.
During the meeting, Akhtar stressed the need for coordinated efforts among government institutions, civil society and development organizations to create sustainable livelihood opportunities and strengthen communities against growing economic and environmental challenges.
He emphasized translating development priorities into practical initiatives that benefit local communities, particularly young people and economically vulnerable groups.
The minister highlighted the importance of partnerships that align public-sector priorities with community needs, promote entrepreneurship and livelihood opportunities, and enhance local capacities to address climate-related challenges.
He also underscored the role of civil society organizations in supporting sustainable development through community engagement, technical expertise and locally driven initiatives.
Speaking on the occasion, Anwar said that closer collaboration between the Gilgit-Baltistan government and development organizations could help translate shared priorities into practical interventions at the community level.
He highlighted FGP’s work on economic empowerment and climate change, stressing the importance of integrating climate awareness and resilience with livelihood development, skills-building and inclusive economic opportunities.
Anwar added that evidence-based planning, local participation and cross-sector partnerships were essential to achieving sustainable and long-term development outcomes.
