IHC maintains stay against removal of graveyard in Sector D-12

IHC seeks replies on appeals against rejection of pleas by Iman Mazari, Hadi Chattha
ISLAMABAD, Oct 28 (APP):The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday maintained its stay order restraining the demolition of a graveyard in Mouza Seri Saral, Sector D-12, and warned that any violation of its order would invite immediate contempt proceedings and imprisonment.
Justice Muhammad Azam Khan granted the parties further time to submit their replies after the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and other respondents failed to file their responses.
During the hearing, the petitioner’s counsel alleged that officials had arrived to carry out an operation on the previous day despite the court’s stay order.
Expressing strong displeasure, Justice Azam Khan warned that if such a violation occurred again, he would immediately convict those responsible for contempt of court and send them to jail.
The judge further remarked that he would award the full six-month sentence for contempt and would not entertain any explanation if the court’s order was violated.
“Inform everyone that if the order is violated, I will send them to jail,” the judge warned.
The court adjourned the hearing after allowing the respondents additional time to submit their replies.
