ISLAMABAD, Oct 28 (APP):The National Institute of Health (NIH) has launched a three-day One Health Zoonotic Disease Prioritization (OHZDP) workshop.
The aim was to strengthen coordination among human health, animal health and environmental sectors for addressing zoonotic diseases and emerging public health threats in Pakistan.
The workshop has brought together experts and stakeholders from all provinces and regions of the country to develop a coordinated approach to identifying and addressing priority zoonotic diseases.
The initiative is being led by the One Health Secretariat at the NIH under the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination (MoNHSR&C), marking an important step towards strengthening multisectoral collaboration and public health preparedness in the country.
The OHZDP process aims to bring together stakeholders from human health, veterinary and environmental sectors to identify and prioritize zoonotic diseases that pose significant risks to public health.
The approach recognizes the interconnectedness of human, animal and environmental health and promotes coordinated strategies to prevent, detect and respond to disease threats.
The workshop is supported by the Pandemic Fund Grant and is being conducted in collaboration with provincial governments, One Health stakeholders and other partners to strengthen Pakistan’s capacity to address zoonotic diseases and enhance health security.
The One Health approach emphasizes that protecting human health requires coordinated efforts across multiple sectors, particularly in addressing diseases that can spread between animals and humans.
The initiative is expected to contribute to improved coordination, information-sharing and joint planning among relevant institutions across the country.
