Azma says CM Maryam’s public welfare initiatives irk political rivals
LAHORE, Oct 30 (APP): Punjab Minister for Information and Culture Azma Bokhari has said that the practical measures and performance of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for public welfare are causing discomfort not only to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) but also to several other political quarters.
Responding to a statement by Kamran Murtaza on Friday, she said the PTI was already sufficient to engage in political point-scoring over Maryam Nawaz’s initiatives, adding that Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) should not try to become PTI’s B-team. “Politics of having a dagger under one’s arm while professing goodwill is no longer going to work,” she remarked.
Azma Bokhari said the people of Punjab had given Maryam Nawaz their mandate, and fulfilling their expectations remained her foremost priority. She said the protection of women and children was among the Punjab government’s top priorities, adding that incidents of violence against women and abuse of children were absolutely unacceptable.
The minister further said the reasons behind directing anger against the state over the removal of illegal encroachments in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were well known. She maintained that Maryam Nawaz would take every possible measure in the best interest of the people to maintain law and order in Punjab and protect their lives and property. Criticism would not deter the chief minister from pursuing her agenda, she said, adding that no compromise would be made on the protection of the lives and property of the people.
