LAHORE, Oct 28 (APP): The Kattar Band Road Industrial Association has expressed serious concern over the continued delay in the reconstruction of Kattar Band Road, warning that road conditions, dust and debris could aggravate smog during the ongoing season.
The Association has urged Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to take immediate notice of the situation and ensure that reconstruction work begins without further delay.
The concerns were raised during a general body meeting of the Kattar Band Road Industrial Association, chaired by its President, Dr. Wasim Sarwar. The meeting discussed issues affecting the industrial community, infrastructure development and the smooth functioning of business activities in the area.
Participants stated that the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) had excavated Kattar Band Road approximately six months ago, but reconstruction work had yet to commence. They expressed concern that the deteriorating road conditions and dust could contribute to worsening air pollution during the smog season, while also disrupting industrial operations, transportation and the daily commute of factory workers and residents.
Addressing the meeting, Dr. Wasim Sarwar said that the failure to reconstruct the road before the arrival of the smog season was deeply concerning. He warned that dust generated by the damaged road could undermine the impact of the Punjab government’s initiatives to combat smog under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
He emphasised that effective smog control required timely action on all contributing factors, including dust pollution caused by damaged roads and delayed infrastructure projects. He urged the relevant authorities to intervene immediately and ensure the prompt commencement of reconstruction work.
The meeting was attended by prominent industrialists, including Mian Muhammad Nawaz, Sheikh Hussain-ud-Din, Sheikh Tahir Anjum, Sheikh Khalid Rasheed, Malik Uzair Saeed, Shaukat Ali, Umair Butt and Umar Rahat, along with other members of the business community.
The Kattar Band Road Industrial Association called upon the provincial government and relevant administrative authorities to take urgent measures to resolve the issue, warning that further delays could intensify the difficulties faced by the industrial community during the critical smog season.
