Farmers in Chichawatni urged to sow wheat from Nov 1 to 20 for better yields
CHICHAWATNI, Oct 11 (APP):The Agriculture Extension Department, Sahiwal, on Sunday organised a training programme for farmers on modern wheat production technology, urging them to use certified seeds, adopt mechanised sowing methods and ensure timely cultivation to increase per-acre yield during the 2026-27 season.
The programme was presided over by Director General Agriculture (Extension) Punjab Chaudhry Shahbaz Akhtar, while Deputy Director Agriculture Dr. Tahir Javed also attended.
Addressing the participants, Assistant Director Agriculture Dr. Muhammad Aslam briefed farmers on harvesting Kharif crops, including cotton, paddy and maize, and the cultivation of upcoming crops such as potatoes, mustard, canola and wheat. He emphasised crop diversification to improve farm incomes and advised growers to select crops according to their land conditions, available resources and economic returns.
Chaudhry Shahbaz Akhtar highlighted the Punjab government’s three-point agenda for wheat production in 2026-27, stressing the use of high-quality, clean and approved registered seeds, row sowing through modern drills or Super Seeders, and timely cultivation. He also advised farmers to complete wheat sowing between November 1 and 20 for better yields, adding that sowing could continue until November 30 if unavoidable circumstances delayed land preparation or availability.
The director general also briefed participants on provincial agricultural policies, ongoing projects and initiatives for farmers’ welfare. He directed Agriculture Extension Department officers and field staff in Sahiwal district to maintain close coordination with growers, disseminate modern agricultural recommendations and intensify outreach to ensure farmers benefit from government support programmes.
