Charming Beijing television series premieres on PTV showcases China’s culture, modern development

BEIJING, Oct 22 (APP): The 2026 edition of the “Charming Beijing” television series premiered on Pakistan Television (PTV) on October 20, has showcased Beijing’s rich cultural heritage, technological advancements, green development and modern urban landscape.

The programme marks another step towards promoting cultural exchange and strengthening mutual understanding between Pakistan and China, which are celebrating the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations this year.

A Pakistani production team visited Beijing in mid-September at the invitation of the Information Office of the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality to film special features highlighting the Chinese capital’s cultural diversity and development.

Bai Li, coordinator of the program told APP that the series explores Beijing through four themes: “Cultural Beijing,” “Technological Beijing,” “Green Beijing” and “Dialogue with Beijing.” It presents the city’s historical landmarks, cultural traditions and contemporary achievements through the perspective of Pakistani media professionals.

She further said the programmes aim to provide Pakistani audiences with a closer look at Beijing, a city renowned for its thousands of years of history and its transformation into a modern international metropolis.

The overseas “Charming Beijing” television project was launched in 2019 by the Information Office of the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality as an international cultural exchange initiative.

Since its launch, the project has invited production teams from 17 countries, including Pakistan, Laos, Serbia, Italy, Brazil, Germany, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Russia, Kazakhstan and Brunei, to visit Beijing and produce programmes showcasing the city.

The resulting programmes have been broadcast on mainstream television channels in more than 10 countries, introducing international audiences to Beijing’s cultural heritage, urban development and contemporary lifestyle.

Bai added that the 2026 series is expected to further strengthen people-to-people contacts and cultural ties between Pakistan and China by highlighting the shared potential of media cooperation in bringing the two nations closer.
