Islamabad Water cracks down on eateries over grease traps

Islamabad Water cracks down on eateries over grease traps
ISLAMABAD, Oct 25 (APP):Islamabad Water has stepped up inspections of restaurants, hotels, cafes and fast-food outlets for failing to install proper oil and grease traps or ensure their regular cleaning and maintenance.
According to the department, field inspections have resulted in challans being issued to establishments found violating the prescribed requirements.
The discharge of kitchen waste, oil and grease directly into sewerage lines is a major cause of recurring blockages, sewage overflows and related sanitation and public health problems, the department said.
It has directed all restaurants, hotels, cafes and fast-food outlets across Islamabad to install appropriate oil and grease traps in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and ensure their regular cleaning and maintenance.
The measure is aimed at preventing oil, grease and kitchen waste from entering the sewerage system and reducing blockages and overflows.
Islamabad Water said enforcement would continue across the city and legal action would be taken against establishments found violating the requirements.
