China urges India to jointly maintain peace along border amid fresh tensions
BEIJING, Oct. 26  (APP):China on Monday urged India to work with Beijing to maintain peace and tranquility along their disputed border, following reports of a fresh confrontation between the two sides.
Responding to a question at a regular Foreign Ministry briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said China strictly abides by relevant agreements and common understandings reached between the two countries.
China conducts normal border patrol and control activities to safeguard its territorial sovereignty and maintain stability in border areas, Guo said.
The remarks came after India’s Ministry of External Affairs reportedly held Chinese military forces responsible for disturbing border peace, saying such incidents occur when Chinese forces deviate from established patterns.
Guo said China and India maintain communication through diplomatic and military channels.
He urged both sides to implement the understandings reached between them and take concrete steps to preserve peace and stability along the border.
“We hope that India will work with China in the same direction,” Guo said, emphasizing the need for joint efforts to maintain peace and tranquility in the border areas.
The latest exchange of remarks highlights continuing sensitivities along the China-India border, where both countries have sought to manage differences through dialogue and military and diplomatic communication.
