ISLAMABAD, Oct 26 (APP):The Senate on Monday unanimously passed a resolution, expressing solidarity with the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and reaffirming Pakistan’s support for their right to self-determination ahead of Kashmir Black Day on October 27.
The resolution was moved by Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Amir Muqam in the House.
Moving the resolution, Engineer Amir Muqam said Kashmir Black Day was observed every year across Pakistan and at Pakistani diplomatic missions abroad to highlight the suffering of the Kashmiri people and express solidarity with their struggle.
He paid tribute to the sacrifices of the Kashmiri people, saying they had continued their struggle for the right to self-determination despite loss of lives, imprisonment and other hardships.
It paid tribute to the Kashmiri people for their continued struggle and sacrifices and stressed the importance of a peaceful settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.
The resolution reaffirmed Pakistan’s principled position that a just and lasting settlement of the dispute was not possible without respecting the aspirations and right to self-determination of the Kashmiri people.
The House urged the United Nations to play an effective role in implementing its relevant resolutions and ensuring that the Kashmiri people could exercise their recognised right to self-determination.
The resolution also called upon the international community to take notice of the human rights situation in IIOJK and play an active role in protecting the fundamental rights of the Kashmiri people.
It urged the government of Pakistan to continue extending political, moral and diplomatic support to the Kashmiri people and further strengthen efforts to highlight the Kashmir dispute at international forums.
