PESHAWAR, Oct 30 (APP):The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has arrested another suspect in the Kohistan mega corruption scandal and produced him before the accountability court here.
The court granted a seven days physical remand of the accused, Muhammad Ayaz into NAB custody.
According to the NAB prosecutor, Rs111.1 million embezzled in the Kohistan mega scandal was recovered from Muhammad Ayaz’s bank account. NAB had sought a 14-day physical remand for further investigation; however, the court approved seven days.
The prosecutor informed the court that the accused’s brother, Muhammad Riaz, was a cashier at the National Bank and is already in jail in connection with the alleged embezzlement of Rs10 billion in the Kohistan scandal.
According to NAB, Muhammad Riaz allegedly transferred the embezzled funds into his brother’s bank account. Muhammad Ayaz is also accused of establishing a fake construction firm in the name of development projects to facilitate the alleged corruption.
The prosecution told the court that no development work had actually been carried out at the designated sites, while the accused allegedly misappropriated Rs111.1 million.
After hearing arguments, Accountability Judge Muhammad Zafar granted NAB seven-day physical remand of the accused for further investigation into the alleged financial irregularities.
