ISLAMABAD, Oct 30 (APP): The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) Islamabad has registered a case against suspects allegedly involved in defrauding InDrive drivers through fake ride and delivery bookings by impersonating senior government officials and demanding money for fabricated emergencies.
According to an NCCIA official, the suspects allegedly used fake identification cards and WhatsApp accounts to pose as senior government officials and gain the trust of drivers.
He said the suspects booked rides and deliveries through InDrive and then contacted drivers with requests for urgent financial assistance on the pretext of medical emergencies and other unexpected expenses.
The official said the drivers were persuaded to transfer money through mobile banking accounts, believing the requests to be genuine.
After receiving the payments, the suspects allegedly cancelled the bookings and stopped responding to the drivers’ calls and messages.
NCCIA Islamabad had registered a case and launched further investigation to identify and trace those involved in the fraudulent scheme.
The official urged citizens, particularly ride-hailing drivers and delivery partners, to verify the identities of individuals making financial requests and avoid transferring money on the basis of unverified emergency claims.
He advised drivers to remain alert to suspicious bookings and report suspected online fraud to the NCCIA.
