Aurangzeb, OPEC Fund president discuss M-6 Motorway project financing, infrastructure priorities
ISLAMABAD, Oct 15 (APP):Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb met with President of the OPEC Fund for International Development Dr Abdulhamid Alkhalifa on the sidelines of the World Bank Group–IMF Annual Meetings 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand, and discussed financing for key infrastructure projects, including the M-6 motorway.
During the meeting, the finance minister highlighted Pakistan’s economic stabilization, progress under the IMF programme and renewed access to international capital markets, a news release said here on Thursday.
He also appreciated the OPEC Fund’s willingness to expand trade and project financing support for Pakistan.
The discussions focused on financing for the M-6 motorway project, including the approved first tranche, the pending loan agreement and subsequent tranches. The ML-1 railway modernization and power transmission infrastructure were also identified as key priorities.
Both sides emphasized expediting approvals and strengthening coordination to ensure timely implementation of the projects. They also exchanged views on regional peace and stability.
The finance minister thanked Dr Alkhalifa for inviting him to visit the OPEC Fund, where the project agreement could potentially be signed during the visit.
