ISLAMABAD, Oct 18 (APP):The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has initiated consultations with healthcare experts, regulatory bodies and industry stakeholders to develop the country’s first Medical Devices Policy.
According to official sources, the objective was to promote local manufacturing, strengthening regulation and improving access to essential medical technologies.
The preliminary consultation was held in line with the National Regulatory System Strategic Plan 2026-30, bringing together representatives of national organisations, including the Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority (PNRA), Connectech, industry bodies such as the Pakistan Engineering and Medical Devices Association (PEMDA) and the Health Devices Association of Pakistan (HDAP), as well as local medical device manufacturers and contract research organisations (CROs).
The participants discussed measures to establish an enabling regulatory environment for domestic medical device production and promote evidence-based regulatory decision-making.
The proposed policy is intended to support Made in Pakistan vision by encouraging local manufacturing, strengthening the medical technology sector and reducing reliance on imported products.
DRAP aims to develop a regulatory framework that supports healthcare innovation while improving patient access to essential and reliable medical technologies across the country, they added.
