AIOU, UK’s wiser minds education join hands to boost youth employability
ISLAMABAD, Oct 28 (APP): In a major step towards aligning higher education with job market needs, Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with UK-based Wiser Minds Education to promote lifelong learning and skills-based education.
Under the agreement, the two institutions will jointly work on modern training programmes, exchange expertise, and launch initiatives that connect academic learning with practical, market-driven skills.
Addressing the ceremony, VC Prof. Dr. Nasir Mahmood said AIOU is moving beyond conventional degree programmes.
“Our commitment is not just to provide accessible education, but to equip students with practical competencies that enhance their employability. Skilled youth are the future of Pakistan,” he said.
He said the university is forging national and international partnerships to prepare a workforce capable of contributing to the country’s economic development.
Dr. Tahir Mahmood briefed the participants about Wiser Minds Education’s global training portfolio and said the collaboration would open international learning pathways for AIOU students.
Dean Faculty of Education, Prof. Dr Naveed Sultana said such collaborations are vital to modernize academic programmes as per contemporary and societal needs.
Director Centre for Lifelong Learning Dr. Tooba Saleem, said the centre is actively working to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and professional skills, and the new partnership will give students access to international-standard training and global experiences.
The MoU was signed at the university’s main campus between AIOU’s Centre for Lifelong Learning and Wiser Minds Education, UK.
Registrar Raja Umer Younis inked the agreement on behalf of AIOU, while Dr. Tahir Mahmood signed for Wiser Minds Education. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr Nasir Mahmood witnessed the ceremony as the chief guest.
