Free hepatitis C screening campaign underway in Islamabad
ISLAMABAD, Oct 25 (APP):Free hepatitis C testing and treatment are being provided to residents of Islamabad under the Prime Minister’s National Programme for the Elimination of Hepatitis C, with the government covering the cost of diagnosis and treatment.
According to the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination, the campaign aims to encourage people to undergo screening for hepatitis C and seek timely treatment to prevent complications.
The programme offers free testing, which would otherwise cost around Rs8,000, while the government will also bear treatment expenses ranging from Rs34,000 to Rs68,000 per patient.
Residents of Islamabad have been urged to benefit from the facility, get tested and encourage family members to undergo screening.
The ministry said the campaign would be extended to Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan in subsequent phases before being expanded across the country.
The initiative is part of the government’s efforts to eliminate hepatitis C through early diagnosis, accessible treatment and greater public awareness.
