NSU plans free hepatitis C screening camps at universities
ISLAMABAD, Oct 14 (APP):National Skills University (NSU), Islamabad, is working with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and QJ Diagnostics Labs to establish free hepatitis C screening and treatment camps at federal universities to support the national goal of eliminating the disease by 2030.
The proposed initiative was discussed during a meeting with HEC Chairman Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar (S.I.), attended by Chairperson of the Department of Health Sciences Technology (DHST), NSU, Prof. Dr. M. Arif Nadeem Saqib, and Chief Executive Director of QJ Diagnostics Labs Islamabad, Dr. Zubair Nasir.
The initiative aims to expand access to hepatitis C screening and diagnostic services for university students, faculty members, administrative staff and other members of academic communities.
Under the proposal, federal government universities would serve as platforms for promoting early detection, raising awareness about disease prevention and facilitating access to appropriate treatment.
The initiative aligns with the Prime Minister’s National Programme for the Elimination of Hepatitis C, which provides free screening, diagnosis and treatment services as part of national efforts to eliminate the disease by 2030.
The proposed collaboration between NSU, HEC and QJ Diagnostics Labs reflects efforts to strengthen cooperation between higher education institutions and healthcare providers to improve access to preventive healthcare.
The planned camps are expected to encourage early diagnosis, promote timely treatment and enhance awareness of hepatitis C across university communities.
