Russian envoy opens door to academic alliance with Pakistan
ISLAMABAD, Oct 16 (APP):Russian Education Attaché Gleb Shubin highlighted vast scope for Pak-Russia academic and cultural cooperation, saying partnerships will boost mutual understanding and friendly ties.
Speaking at a certificate distribution ceremony at Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU), Russian Cultural and Education Attaché Gleb Shubin said educational cooperation offers people of both countries valuable opportunities to learn each other’s languages, cultures, academic traditions and social values.
He noted that such exchanges not only enhance academic learning but also promote cultural harmony and people-to-people contacts.
Congratulating the successful participants of the Russian language course, Shubin expressed hope that these language initiatives would continue to play a vital role in strengthening mutual understanding, academic linkages and long-standing friendly relations between Pakistan and Russia.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Zahid Majeed, Director of International Collaboration and Exchange at AIOU said the university was providing Pakistani students with opportunities to learn foreign languages and gain a deeper understanding of the cultures, educational traditions and social values of different countries.
Dr. Zahid Majeed said that this was the eleventh batch of the Russian language course, adding that training for the next batch would begin in November and that the programme would continue in the future.
He said the university hosted Türkiye’s Yunus Emre Institute and the Japan-Pakistan Advancement Centre, providing students with opportunities to learn Turkish and Japanese and explore the respective countries’ cultures.
Dr. Zahid Majeed further revealed that the university planned to establish centres for Chinese and German languages to broaden the scope of language education and strengthen its international academic links.
Professor Dr. Anton Dolgov and Dr. Roman Porozov of Russia’s Ural State Pedagogical University also shared their experiences of teaching Russian in Pakistan.
They said learning foreign languages promoted direct communication, cultural awareness and mutual trust among people from different countries.
Under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Nasir Mahmood Allama Iqbal Open University has been undertaking various initiatives to promote international academic collaboration, expand foreign language education and enable students to benefit from educational opportunities at the global level.
The university aims to provide quality education while familiarizing students with different languages and cultures and opening new avenues for international cooperation.
