Lahore crime rate drops 47% in 2026: CCPO
LAHORE, Oct 26 (APP):Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Bilal Siddique Kamyana on Monday said the overall rate of serious crimes in Lahore had declined by 47 percent in 2026 compared with the previous year.
Addressing a “Meet the Press” programme at the Lahore Press Club, he said murder cases had decreased by nine percent, attempted murder by 17 percent, robbery by 44 percent, street crime by 68 percent and snatching incidents by 45 percent.
He said car snatching had declined by 67 percent, car theft by 68 percent, motorcycle snatching by 63 percent, motorcycle theft by 44 percent and burglary by 37 percent.
Accompanied by DIG Operations Faisal Kamran and DIG Investigation Syed Zeeshan Raza, the CCPO said Lahore was a safe city with no room for organised criminal networks, land-grabbing groups or extortion mafias.
He said the provincial government had adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption and crimes against women and children, adding that their protection would remain a top priority. However, he warned that those found lodging false cases would also face legal action under the Anti-Rape Act.
Sharing crime statistics, Kamyana said 5,380 cases of women’s abduction were registered in Lahore from January to October 2026, compared with 4,888 in the same period of 2025 and 4,354 in 2024. He said 84 percent of such cases registered in 2026 had been cancelled, against 95 percent in 2025 and 94 percent in 2024.
He added that the cancellation rate in cases involving crimes against children ranged from 89 to 91 percent, while it stood between 26 and 38 percent in gang-rape cases. Approximately 50 percent of rape cases registered during the past three years had also been cancelled, he said.
The CCPO attributed the decline in crime to the Lahore Police’s strategy and teamwork, saying police had brought nearly one million cases to their logical conclusion over the past few years.
During 2026, he said, police had arrested 5,212 suspects belonging to 2,410 criminal gangs and recovered property worth more than Rs1.51 billion in cases registered during the year.
He said the police would strictly enforce the prescribed timeline for the manufacture and sale of kites and strings in connection with the Basant festival.
The CCPO said constructive media criticism and fact-based reporting played a key role in building a healthy society. He added that the police had taken effective measures to control crime and maintain law and order, enabling citizens to move around the city without fear, even late at night.
DIG Operations Faisal Kamran said the police registered cases promptly when crimes were reported and reiterated that the city had witnessed a clear decline in crime. He also highlighted the Punjab government’s efforts to promote tourism in Lahore and stressed the importance of factual reporting.
DIG Investigation Syed Zeeshan Raza said the recovery rate in cases involving women and children stood at 99 percent. He said investigations were being brought to their logical conclusion with the help of human intelligence and modern forensic science.
Earlier, Lahore Press Club President Arshad Ansari and other office-bearers welcomed the CCPO. At the conclusion of the programme, Mr Ansari presented a commemorative shield to Mr Kamyana.
