PFA discards 900kg unsafe meat, seizes supplier’s vehicle

262 food points penalized for hygiene violations in Khanewal during September
LAHORE, Oct 30 (APP): The enforcement team of the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) under the directions of Director General Raja Mansoor Ahmad, conducted an operation in Kot Lakhpat, discarding 900kg of unsafe meat recovered from a beef shop and confiscating the supplier’s vehicle. Meat was declared unfit for human consumption after inspection by a veterinary specialist.
Meat safety team found that the meat had a foul smell, discoloured appearance and signs of lumpy skin disease. The investigation revealed that sick animals were being illegally slaughtered and their meat prepared for sale.
DG PFA said that the meat was recovered from a beef shop and immediately discarded after being declared hazardous for human consumption by the veterinary specialist. He said that selling unsafe meat is a serious offence and warned that legal action would be taken against those involved in food adulteration and fraudulent practices.
He further stated that Punjab Food Authority is committed to ensuring the provision of safe and healthy food to citizens.
