PMAS-AAUR marks World Food Day with focus on food security
RAWALPINDI, Nov 01 (APP): The Institute of Food and Nutritional Sciences of Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) on Sunday celebrated World Food Day 2026 under the theme “Innovate Today, Nourish Tomorrow” to advance public awareness regarding food security, healthy eating, and sustainable food systems.
The event featured an awareness walk, a scientific seminar, student poster competition and a food festival designed to demonstrate practical approaches to pressing nutritional and food-supply challenges.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman attended as Chief Guest, inspecting student food stalls and poster presentations before leading the campus awareness walk.
Addressing the seminar, Prof. Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman stated that securing food supplies and advancing nutritional health remain fundamental pillars for building a resilient society. He emphasized that higher education institutions must spearhead applied research, technological innovation, and community outreach to resolve emerging food system vulnerabilities.
The vice chancellor urged academic researchers and students to promote responsible dietary practices, improve public nutritional literacy, and implement sustainable agricultural techniques to ensure equitable access to safe, nutritious food for all.
