LG Bodies’ performance, transparency to be reviewed by high-level committee: Nasir Shah
KARACHI, Oct 30 (APP): Sindh Minister for Local Government, Housing and Town Planning Syed Nasir Hussain Shah on Friday said that a high-level committee established by the Chief Minister of Sindh on the directives of Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will review the performance, transparency and public complaints concerning local government bodies across the province, from Union Councils and Towns to Municipal Corporations and District Councils. The committee will submit its final recommendations to the Chief Minister of Sindh.
The minister said that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had received various complaints regarding the functioning of local government institutions at different levels, including Union Councils, Towns, Municipal Corporations and District Councils. Taking notice of these complaints, the PPP Chairman directed the Chief Minister to take immediate steps to address the issues. Consequently, the Chief Minister constituted a high-level committee under the chairmanship of the Local Government Minister.
The committee comprises Additional Chief Secretary Local Government Dr Wasim Shamshad, Chief Minister’s Inspection Team Member Anwar Shar, Local Government Commission Member Abdul Rahim Soomro and Mir Hussain Ali.
During the meeting, it was decided that all local councils across Sindh, including Union Councils, Towns, Municipal Corporations and District Councils, would undergo a transparent and impartial review. The examination will cover illegal recruitment, irregularities in budgets, misuse of authority and other unlawful activities.
Nasir Shah said that the objective of these measures was to improve the performance of all Municipal Corporations, Towns, Union Councils and District Councils. He added that, in line with Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s vision, the government aimed to ensure the delivery of public facilities at people’s doorsteps, provide relief to citizens and resolve public complaints.
The meeting also decided to conduct budget audits at the levels of all Municipal Corporations, District Councils, Union Councils and Towns.
