ISLAMABAD, Oct 27 (APP):The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Tuesday directed police to recover a girl who has been missing for nine months and produce her before the court within two weeks.
Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro issued the direction while hearing a petition filed by the girl’s father, Abid Hussain.
During the hearing, the petitioner’s counsel said that no significant progress had been made in the case despite several months having passed. He said a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) had been formed after the family lost confidence in the police, but the girl had still not been recovered. The geofencing report was also awaited, he added.
The police counsel informed the court that the JIT held its latest meeting on October 20 and that police were conducting operations in coordination with various agencies. He said the investigation was making positive progress, but some details could not be shared at this stage due to their confidential nature.
Justice Soomro observed that the investigating officer would not be transferred until the investigation was completed.
When the court asked when the girl would be produced, Investigation Officer Inspector Fawad said the police would make every effort to recover her before the next hearing.
The court granted the authorities a further two weeks to recover the girl and adjourned the hearing.
On September 1, the court had ordered the formation of a JIT to trace the missing girl. The team is headed by the Islamabad Police Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and includes the Senior Superintendent of Police (Investigation), representatives of the Intelligence Bureau and the Federal Investigation Agency, as well as a female police officer.
