RAWALPINDI, Oct 30 (APP):The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Rawalpindi is working with South Korean water consultants K-Water to introduce a modern water management system aimed at reducing water losses, detecting pipeline leakages and improving water distribution across the city.
In this regard, a meeting was held between WASA officials and K-Water consultants to discuss the establishment of District Metered Areas (DMAs), under which different localities would be divided into designated water supply zones to monitor water inflow, consumption and losses.
The proposed system would use modern monitoring technology and water flow meters to identify leakage points, regulate water pressure and improve the efficiency of the existing distribution network. The initiative also aims to strengthen WASA’s capacity for monitoring water supply and managing available resources more effectively.
Under the proposed arrangement, pilot DMA zones in Khayaban-e-Sir Syed are also envisaged, with the objective of improving water supply monitoring and ensuring more efficient distribution to households.
The initiative is linked to broader efforts to modernise Rawalpindi’s water supply infrastructure under the DREAMS project, which includes measures to improve water transmission, expand supply sources and upgrade distribution facilities.
Rawalpindi has been facing growing pressure on its water resources due to increasing population and rising demand. The introduction of modern monitoring and leakage detection technology is expected to help reduce non-revenue water and improve service delivery to consumers.
The cooperation with Korean consultants is expected to provide technical support and modern expertise for improving water management practices in the city.
