Governor Saleem backs KP Governor’s rule, calls for greater focus on development of underdeveloped areas
FAISALABAD, Oct 19 (APP):Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan has supported the imposition of governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and said that Constitution of Pakistan provides for such a measure and approval from the relevant cabinet and parliament was received as fight against terrorism is a national priority.
Talking to media persons after meeting with a local Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) leader Arshad Jutt at his residence on Monday, the Governor Punjab said that the emergency in KP was imposed to fight against terrorism.
He alleged that leaders and office-bearers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had neither condemned terrorism nor expressed support for security personnel who had sacrificed their lives in the fight against terrorism.
“The fight against terrorism is not open to compromise”, he said, adding that sustainable development would remain difficult without effectively addressing the security challenge.
He stressed the need for a firm national response to terrorism and paid tribute to the personnel who had laid down their lives in the line of duty.
Turning to governance and development, the Punjab governor said that the 18th Constitutional Amendment had provided provinces with substantial financial resources to address public needs.
He said that the PPP supported Punjab administration to deliver tangible results for the people. He urged the Punjab government to give greater attention to underdeveloped and deprived areas particularly in ensuring access to healthcare, education and other basic facilities.
Public welfare and provision of essential services should remain central to the provincial government’s priorities, he added.
On this occasion, the Governor Punjab also recorded a message for women in connection with “Breast Cancer Awareness Day”, emphasizing the importance of public awareness, early diagnosis and timely medical consultation.
He urged women to consult a doctor promptly if they experienced symptoms or unusual changes, stressing that breast cancer could be treated more effectively when detected at an early stage. However, delays in diagnosis and treatment could allow the disease to become life-threatening, he added.
The Governor Punjab also called for greater awareness among women about the importance of recognizing warning signs and seeking timely medical advice to improve treatment outcomes.
