Noreen Niazi receiving necessary medical care on doctor advise: Senate told
ISLAMABAD, Oct 30 (APP):Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry informed the Senate on Friday that Noreen Niazi was being provided all necessary medical care and had been shifted to hospital on the recommendation of doctors.
Responding to a point raised by Senator Mohsin Aziz regarding her health condition, he said the government was particularly sensitive to the health and welfare of individuals in detention and would ensure that their rights and medical needs were fully protected.
He said Noreen Niazi was shifted to hospital on the advice of doctors, adding that decisions regarding her treatment, hospitalisation and any further medical intervention would be taken by the medical professionals concerned.
“The decision about whether a person is ill and what treatment is required rests with doctors,” he said, stressing that medical care would be provided in accordance with professional advice and established procedures.
He added that her family was present at the hospital and the government had fulfilled its responsibility by arranging the necessary medical facilities.
Meanwhile, Senator Azam Swati referred to a recent telephone conversation with Hafeez Ullah Niazi, who appreciated the government for facilitating Noreen Niazi’s transfer to hospital and arranging a meeting with her elder daughter.
Azam Swati described the arrangements as a positive humanitarian step and urged the government to also allow her younger daughter to meet her, saying family visits should be facilitated on humanitarian grounds.
He said the matter should be viewed from a humanitarian perspective, beyond political differences. He also called for consideration of similar relief for other family members.
