Pakistan, Qatar, Türkiye & Indonesia sign “Badr” MoU for defence industrial cooperation
ISLAMABAD, Oct 21 (APP):Pakistan, Qatar, Türkiye and Indonesia on Wednesday signed the “Badr” multilateral memorandum of understanding in Doha to strengthen cooperation in defence industries among the four countries.
The memorandum was signed between the defence ministries of Pakistan, Qatar, Indonesian and Turkiye, the Defense Industrial Production Organization of Pakistan, and the Presidency of Defense Industries under the Turkish Presidency, said a statement issued by the Ministry of Defence of Qatar, also shared by Pakistan’s Foreign Office.
The signing was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense Affairs of Qatar, Sheikh Saud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan Al Thani, Pakistan’s Minister of Defence, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Türkiye’s Minister of National Defence, Yasar Güler, Indonesia’s Deputy Minister of Defence for Logistics, Defence Industries and Technology Affairs, Marshal Yusuf Juhari, and President of the Turkish Defense Industries Authority (SSB), Professor Haluk Görgün.
The statement described the signing as a step that reflects the commitment to strengthening joint cooperation and developing strategic partnerships.
Under the pact, the four countries will foster cooperation in defence manufacturing. They will strengthen defence capabilities among the signatories.
The countries will collaborate on technical defence training and on research and development, contributing to solutions and industries befitting the development of modern defences.
They will draw on each country’s defence manufacturing capabilities to achieve cooperation, integration and the development of defence industry capacity, in order to meet the needs of allied and friendly nations.
The memorandum holds significant economic importance for the signatory countries.
Speaking on the occasion, Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif said Pakistan places great importance on strengthening defence cooperation with trusted partners.
“This memorandum reflects our shared commitment to contributing to regional peace and stability,” he said.
He said Pakistan looks forward to exploring opportunities for strengthening self-reliance, industrial collaboration, joint production and technology transfer. These would draw on the complementary strengths of the partners’ defence industries, in accordance with relevant international and domestic laws and regulations.
“Through this partnership, we aim to advance cooperation across joint research and development, training exchanges and industrial capability building,” the minister said.
