CTP Rawalpindi holds anti-smog awareness walk to curb air Pollution
RAWALPINDI, Oct 29 (APP): City Traffic Police (CTP) Rawalpindi organised a lecture and an awareness walk in Pirwadhai Sector to highlight the harmful effects of smog and the importance of preventing air pollution, on the directions of Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Farhan Aslam.
DSP Traffic Meharabad Tayyab Abbas and Inspector Tahir Kanwal, in-charge of the Traffic Education Wing, led the activity along with their teams. A large number of bus terminal managers, drivers and citizens participated in the event.
Addressing the participants, DSP Tayyab Abbas explained the harmful effects of smog and measures to prevent it. He said smoke emitted by vehicles not only adversely affected human health but also contributed to smog, which could lead to road accidents.
He said Rawalpindi Traffic Police was taking strict and indiscriminate action against vehicles emitting excessive smoke.
Such vehicles would be impounded at police stations until their fitness certificates were issued. He urged vehicle owners and drivers to ensure timely tuning and maintenance of their vehicles to avoid legal action.
CTO Farhan Aslam said smoke-emitting vehicles polluted the environment and caused various diseases. He added that Rawalpindi Traffic Police was taking comprehensive measures to provide citizens with a clean and healthy environment.
He also urged citizens to play their part in keeping the environment clean and reducing air pollution.
