KARACHI, Oct 20 (APP):Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Tuesday took serious notice of a newly confirmed polio case in Karachi and convened an emergency meeting, directing the Health Department to conduct a comprehensive investigation, identify the source of the virus and take immediate measures to prevent its further spread.
A six-month-old child has tested positive for poliovirus in Jamali Colony Union Council, District East, Karachi.
Expressing concern over the detection of the case despite sustained government efforts to eradicate the disease, the Chief Minister sought a detailed report on the circumstances surrounding the infection.
The emergency meeting was attended by Health Minister Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho, Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah and Secretary Health Tahir Sangi.
The CM Murad directed the Secretary Health and relevant authorities to investigate all aspects of the case, determine the possible source of the virus and establish how the infection occurred.
He ordered immediate case-response measures in the affected area, including comprehensive sweeping, and stressed strict adherence to established polio eradication protocols.
The Chief Minister directed the concerned officials to take effective steps to contain the virus and prevent further transmission, emphasising that the case must be thoroughly investigated and a detailed report submitted to the government.
