BEIJING, Oct 30 (APP)::Foreign journalists, experts, social media influencers and Gen Z representatives explored China’s mangrove conservation efforts and the province’s latest developments in technology, industry and culture during an international media tour in Guangdong province.
The delegation joined Chinese media representatives for the 2026 A Date with China · Meet Guangdong international media tour, which kicked off in Shenzhen.
The visit aimed to showcase Guangdong’s development and cultural appeal through an international, youth-focused and integrated media approach.
The group visited Futian Mangrove Ecological Park in Shenzhen, where they learned about mangroves’ ecological importance and observed local efforts to protect and restore the coastal ecosystem.
Experts explained that mangroves form a unique ecosystem at the intersection of land and sea. Their extensive root systems help trap sediment and improve coastal stability, while their dense yet flexible trunks and branches absorb wave energy, helping protect shorelines from erosion and other coastal hazards.
Although China is home to only about 0.2 percent of the world’s mangroves, its conservation and restoration initiatives demonstrate how ecological protection can be integrated with human development. China has also expressed its willingness to share its experience and practices with the international community.
Guangdong is home to China’s largest mangrove area, accounting for nearly 40 percent of the country’s total. Under China’s national mangrove protection and restoration plan for 2020–2025, the province was tasked with creating 5,500 hectares of new mangrove forests and restoring 2,500 hectares of degraded mangrove areas.
Beyond ecological conservation, the delegation explored Guangdong’s advances in science, technology and cultural industries.
In Shenzhen’s Nanshan district, the group visited the AI Valley, where participants experienced the city’s vibrant innovation environment and learned about developments in artificial intelligence and related technologies.
The delegation also visited the Zhuhai Embodied Intelligence Application Innovation Center to learn about practical applications of embodied intelligence and efforts to accelerate the commercialization and industrialization of robotics technologies.
At Ninestar, participants gained an overview of the printing industry’s full value chain and learned about core laser printer technologies.
In Hengqin, the group visited Hengqin International Film and Television City to explore the development of China’s micro-drama industry, its growing international reach and the integrated services available for film and television production.
The delegation also visited the Hengqin Traditional Chinese Medicine Culture Experience Hall, where participants learned about the history, principles and cultural heritage of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM).
The tour concluded with the 2026 A Date with China Annual Content Creation Exchange Meeting, providing a platform for participants to exchange ideas and discuss ways to present China’s development, innovation and cultural heritage to international audiences.
