Kashmiris observe Black Day to protest Indian occupation
MIRPUR (AJK), Oct 27 (APP):Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control (LoC) and across the world observed Black Day on Tuesday to mark the anniversary of the arrival of Indian troops in Srinagar on October 27, 1947, and protest India’s control over Jammu and Kashmir.
Black flags were hoisted on buildings, while people wore black armbands and held rallies and demonstrations to draw international attention to the unresolved Kashmir dispute and the rights of the Kashmiri people.
In Mirpur, a protest rally was taken out from the District Courts, attended by people from different walks of life and representatives of civil society organisations. The rally was followed by a procession and protest demonstration.
Addressing the gathering, political and social activists called for a peaceful settlement of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with international law and relevant international commitments. They urged the international community to play an effective role in resolving the dispute and safeguarding the rights of the Kashmiri people.
