PESHAWAR, Oct 29 (APP):Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) has ordered the disconnection of high-loss transformers in areas where electricity theft is widespread or consumers fail to pay their bills, aiming to reduce losses and ease load-shedding.
PESCO Chief Akhtar Hameed Khan directed the relevant officials to disconnect power supply to such transformers, saying their high losses also affected the performance of connected feeders and contributed to prolonged power outages.
He said the action would help reduce electricity losses and improve the power supply situation.
According to PESCO, the Peshawar Circle disconnected four transformers over outstanding dues of Rs12 million on Wednesday.
In Dera Ismail Khan Circle, the company disconnected 11 transformers against outstanding dues of Rs21 million.
PESCO has also disconnected several high-loss transformers in Shangla, Timergara and Dir as part of its campaign to curb electricity theft, recover outstanding dues and reduce distribution losses.
