ISLAMABAD, Oct 21 (APP):A court has sentenced three persons, including a foreign national, to seven years in prison each and imposed a combined fine of Rs 250,000 in an online investment fraud case involving Rs19.391 million, following an investigation by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) Islamabad Circle.
An NCCIA official told on Wednesday that the convicts had defrauded a citizen of Rs19.391 million by luring the victim into an investment scheme through a fake mobile application impersonating a foreign private bank.
He said the accused used the fraudulent banking application to convince the complainant to invest money, resulting in a substantial financial loss.
The official said the case was investigated by Sub-Inspector Shehroz Riaz of NCCIA Islamabad Circle, whose investigation and presentation of evidence helped secure the convictions.
He said the court, after completing the legal proceedings, awarded seven years’ imprisonment to each of the three convicts and imposed a total fine of Rs250,000.
NCCIA remained committed to taking legal action against individuals involved in online investment scams, financial fraud and other cybercrimes.
He urged citizens to exercise caution while investing through online platforms and verify the authenticity of banking applications and investment offers before transferring money.
